Extra-Long Domed Eyelet for Thick and Layered Materials

This extra-long domed sheet metal eyelet is used to create a neat metal finish around small lace, cord and fastening openings on footwear, bags, leather goods, thick fabrics, multi-layer textiles, protective cases and suitable accessory products.

The 5.3 mm / 0.209 in inner opening can accommodate compatible thin cords, laces and fastening components. Its 9.7 mm / 0.382 in domed outer surface covers the edge of the prepared opening, while the 7.5 mm / 0.295 in barrel is formed over the selected washer during installation.

The extra-long barrel can be considered when the barrel of a standard eyelet is not long enough to pass through the complete material stack. Final suitability must be tested using the actual material, washer, setting die and press adjustment.

How Does It Differ from the Standard Version?

The standard K0008 sheet metal eyelet measures 5.3 mm / 0.209 in inside diameter, 9.2 mm / 0.362 in outside diameter and 6 mm / 0.236 in in barrel height.

This extra-long model retains the 5.3 mm / 0.209 in inner diameter but has a 9.7 mm / 0.382 in outer diameter and a 7.5 mm / 0.295 in barrel height.

The barrel is approximately 1.5 mm / 0.059 in longer than the standard version. This additional length may be useful when working with thicker or more heavily layered materials.

Plastic Washer or Metal Washer?

Plastic washer

A plastic washer can be considered when a lighter and softer rear support is preferred for suitable garments, textiles, tags and accessory applications.

Metal washer

A metal washer may be selected when a conventional all-metal connection and a metal rear finish are preferred for footwear, bags, leather accessories and similar products.

Plastic and metal washers are separate product options. Confirm the selected finish, washer type and quantity before completing the order.

Compatible Setting Die and Hole Preparation

A setting die suitable for eyelets in the approximately 5–5.6 mm / 0.197–0.220 in inner-diameter class may be used to form the barrel over the selected washer.

A 5 mm / 0.197 in punching die or Padova punching tool can be considered for preparing the installation opening. Material thickness, stretch, fibre structure and number of layers can affect the required opening.

The diameter class may be suitable for the standard setting die, but the 7.5 mm / 0.295 in extra-long barrel may require a compatible die profile and a different press adjustment. Test the complete system before production.

Installation Steps

1. Mark the required eyelet position.
2. Check the total compressed thickness of the material layers.
3. Prepare a controlled opening with a compatible 5 mm / 0.197 in punching tool.
4. Insert the eyelet through the front of the material.
5. Position the selected plastic or metal washer on the rear side.
6. Centre the eyelet and washer in the setting die.
7. Begin with low press pressure and apply the force gradually.
8. Check that the extra-long barrel opens evenly over the washer.
9. Increase the press adjustment only in small steps when necessary.
10. Begin production only after completing a successful sample installation.

Selection and Installation Warnings

• Do not select the product using only a traditional size number.
• Check the inner diameter, outer diameter and barrel height together.
• Do not assume the extra-long barrel is suitable for thin materials.
• Do not prepare an opening larger than required.
• Keep the eyelet and washer centred in the setting die.
• Do not position the setting die at an angle.
• Do not apply excessive press force in one step.
• Do not describe the product as brass or stainless steel.
