This Fabric Cutting Die cuts 36 mm / 1.42 in fabric circles for 36L cover buttons with a finished visible diameter of 22 mm / 0.87 in.
The difference between the 36 mm fabric circle and the 22 mm button creates the covering allowance required for the fabric to fold inward around the button edge. This die prepares the fabric; it does not cover the button itself.
This 36L Fabric Cutting Die prepares the fabric circles used for 22 mm / 0.87 in fabric-covered buttons. When used with a suitable press, it cuts a clean 36 mm / 1.42 in circular fabric piece. That piece is then placed over the button shell before covering.
This is a fabric-cutting die, not a button-covering die. It does not form the fabric around the button shell. Its job is to prepare the correct fabric circle before the covering stage.
The finished visible diameter of the cover button is 22 mm / 0.87 in, while the fabric cutting die produces a 36 mm / 1.42 in circle. The total difference is 14 mm / 0.55 in.
That difference creates approximately 7 mm / 0.28 in of fabric allowance on each side of the button. During the covering process, the extra fabric folds inward around the button edge and gathers toward the reverse side. This allowance helps the fabric cover the face and edge of the button without leaving an exposed border.
The cutting die produces a 36 mm circular fabric piece. Depending on how the fabric is positioned, the press action creates a circular opening in the layered fabric and releases the cut fabric disc for button covering.
The fabric disc is placed over the compatible 22 mm button shell. When the shell is pressed in the matching Fabric Button Covering Die, the excess fabric around the edge folds inward and toward the rear of the button.
A Fabric Cutting Die prepares the fabric circle. A Fabric Button Covering Die shapes the cut fabric around the button shell or compatible snap cap. These are separate stages and require different tools.
When the snap-cap geometry and cutting requirement are confirmed, this die can prepare fabric circles for the covering stage of compatible fabric-covered snap caps.
It does not cover the cap, and it does not install the snap fastening mechanism. The cap must first be covered with a compatible Fabric Button Covering Die, then assembled with its matching socket and snap components using a separate Snap Setting Die.
Fabric thickness, stretch, surface texture and pattern direction affect both cutting quality and the final covered-button appearance. Test the actual fabric before starting repeated production, especially with velvet, stretch fabrics, thick textiles, satin, slippery fabrics, plaid patterns, stripes and multilayer constructions.
The 36 mm circle provides the standard covering allowance for the 22 mm button system. Very thick or unusually stiff materials can alter how the allowance folds around the reverse side, so sample work remains important.
This die can be used with a compatible hand press or fabric-covering machine after confirming the actual die-holder and press connection. The live product page lists the Manual Hand Press as a complementary item.
Do not assume that visually similar press holders or thread sizes are mechanically interchangeable. Confirm the physical die connection before use.
It cuts 36 mm / 1.42 in diameter fabric circles.
The additional material creates the allowance needed to fold the fabric inward around the button edge during the covering process.
The 36 mm circle is 14 mm larger in total diameter than the 22 mm button. That leaves approximately 7 mm / 0.28 in of fold-in allowance on each side.
No. It cuts the fabric circle. A separate Fabric Button Covering Die is required to form the fabric around the button shell.
It can prepare the fabric circle for a compatible snap cap when the cap geometry is confirmed. It does not complete fabric covering or snap assembly.
Yes, when the die-holder and press connection are physically compatible.
