Measure the Actual Closure Opening

Do not select zipper length from the full outside measurement of the pillow or cushion. Mark the actual zipper start and end points on your sewing pattern. Seam allowance, lining thickness, piping, corner construction and the opening required to remove the insert all influence the right zipper length.

Before full production, make a sample using the actual fabric, lining, piping and filling. This helps prevent zipper openings that are too short for easy insert removal or unnecessarily long for a clean finished edge.

Finish Cut Ends Securely

Continuous zipper chain does not include factory-finished end stops at every cut location. Secure both cut ends with strong stitching, suitable zipper stops, folded tape finishing or another method appropriate for the cover construction. Proper finishing helps prevent the slider from running off the chain during use.
