Hand Punch and Setting Tool for Size 31 Aluminum Eyelets

This Size 31 eyelet hand tool is designed to assist with the manual installation of compatible aluminum eyelets with a 17 mm (0.67 in) inner diameter. It can be used on tarps, tents, awnings, banners, vinyl materials, protective covers and suitable heavy textile surfaces.

The tool has two working orientations. The conical end helps prepare the opening required for the eyelet barrel, while the raised setting end helps flare and secure the barrel over the matching metal washer.

Because it is operated directly with a hammer, the tool is practical for on-site repairs, samples and low-volume installation where a hand press or fixed setting machine cannot be positioned.

Two Working Functions

Conical end for preparing the hole

The conical working end helps prepare the opening through which the eyelet barrel will pass. The material should be placed on a flat, solid and impact-resistant support before punching.

Raised end for setting the eyelet

After positioning the eyelet and matching washer, turn the tool to its setting orientation. Place the raised end vertically in the centre of the eyelet barrel and apply controlled hammer strikes to gradually flare the barrel over the washer.

This reversible construction allows both hole preparation and eyelet setting to be carried out with one compact hand tool.

How to Use the Tool

1. Mark the position where the eyelet will be installed.
2. Place the material on a flat, solid and impact-resistant support.
3. Position the conical end vertically over the marked point.
4. Apply controlled hammer strikes to prepare the required opening.
5. Insert the matching Size 31 aluminum eyelet through the opening.
6. Place the matching metal washer over the eyelet barrel.
7. Turn the tool to its setting orientation.
8. Position the raised end centrally and vertically over the barrel.
9. Apply several light and balanced hammer strikes.
10. Check that the eyelet barrel has flared evenly over the washer.

Why Should Hammer Force Be Controlled?

One excessive strike may bend the aluminum eyelet, split the barrel, close the washer unevenly or damage the application surface.

Several light and controlled strikes allow the eyelet barrel to open gradually and make it easier to inspect the installation while working.

How Is It Different from Other Eyelet Dies?

This product is not only a hole-punching die. It also has a second working end that assists with shaping and setting the eyelet barrel.

It is also different from threaded upper and lower dies designed for installation in a hand press or powered machine. This tool is held manually and struck directly with a hammer.

The hand tool is practical for repairs, samples, mobile applications and low-volume work. For continuous or high-volume production, a compatible Size 31 press-mounted die may provide more repeatable positioning and pressure.
